BIBLE READING: PSALM 115:16; GENESIS 13:14-17; DEUTERONOMY 1:8; NUMBERS 33:53
“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the Earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the Earth.” Genesis 1:28(NKJV)
The Lord God Almighty is the God of all Creation and the Possessor of Heaven and Earth. (Gen.14:22b) He is without any shadow of doubt the Omnipotent One. This has a dual meaning:
(a.) He is the All-Powerful God: The Scripture makes it clear that Power belongs to Him alone. (Ps. 62:11)
(2.) He is the God of All Potential: This means there’s no limit to what He can do or produce. However, the Bible tells us clearly that “as He is, so are we in this world.” (1Jn. 4:17b) This is a clear pointer to the Capacity of God and His Sons to exercise dominion.
From our key text, we can see that there are four steps to exercising dominion over your sphere of influence as a Christian:
(1.) Productivity: (“Be fruitful….”) This is mandatory for every believer because we have already been blessed or empowered to succeed by God. (Num. 23:20)
(2.) Reproduction: (“Multiply….”) Barenness is a taboo under the covenant hence we have a duty to reproduce Christlike believers. (Ex. 23:26)
(3.) Saturation: (“Replenish….”) This is the point where your influence spreads rapidly to the point of your results become evident to people far and wide. (1Tim. 4:15)
(4.) Consolidation: (“Subdue”) This is the stage whereby there’s a transition from being a movement to being a monument. In other words, anyone who reaches this stage becomes a yardstick and reference point in his field. (1Kgs. 4:29-35)
Heavenly Father, to You alone do we ascribe the Glory.Thank You, O Lord, for blessing us and granting us the opportunity to exercise dominion on Your Behalf in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
