“For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.” 1Peter 3:5-6(NKJV)

One of the greatest weapons in the arsenal of any believer is the Principle of Submission. Speaking through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord made His Mind known: “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.” (Isa.1:19). Willingness in the aforementioned Scripture refers to submission which is the right attitude before any higher authority. The same principle applies to married women because their true power is seen in their submission to their own husbands.

Apostle Paul compared the relationship existing between a husband and his wife with the Relationship which exists between Christ Jesus and the Church: “Therefore, just as the Church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.” (Eph. 5:24) In other words, the submission required of a wife to her husband is expected to mirror that required of the Church to the Lord Jesus. It is a taboo as a Christian to tell Him “No, Lord”. Even both words are mutually exclusive. Only one person recorded in Scripture made that blunder and as a result had his apostolic oversight limited to the Jews. (see Acts 10:9-16)

Wise Christian sisters understand that authority is meant to be influenced rather than challenged. As a woman, opposing or undermining your own husband’s role as as your covering only puts you in grave danger and can cause the angels to execute judgment. (see 1Cor. 11:10) Genuine submission is characterized by meekness which isn’t weakness but rather strength under control. In other words, a truly submissive woman knows she is strong and capable but still places her sufficiency within the boundaries of her husband’s authority, ever ready and willing to tell him “Yes, lord.”

Heavenly Father, we thank You for giving us the Revelation of Submission, wherein lies our security. O Lord, please help us always to say yes to Your Every Wish and help our wives to adopt the same attitude to their husbands in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
