BIBLE READING: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:3-4; 1 CORINTHIANS 7:1-2; EXODUS 22:16; ROMANS 6:1-16
“Honour marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex.” Hebrews 13:4 (MSG).
The issue of sex is fast becoming a gray area within the context of Christianity. Due to the gradual permeation of false doctrines promoting lawlessness within the Church, many have abandoned Biblical Boundaries all in the name of inclusion (see 2 Tim.4:3-4). However, everything the Lord God Almighty created has a purpose and a jurisdiction, with sex being no exception.
Sex can be defined as a process of intimate intercourse between a man and a woman within the context of the Biblical Marriage Covenant (see Gen. 2:24). The basic purposes of sex include covenant bonding, procreation and sensual pleasure according to Scriptural Norms. From this, it is apparent that sex was designed by God to be enjoyed only within the marriage union, therefore pre-marital sex is a no-no. The Bible tells us: “But sexual sin is never right: our bodies were not made for that but for the Lord, and the Lord wants to fill our bodies with Himself.” 1Cor. 6:13b (TLB).
Pre-marital sex, which is known as fornication, is never right because it is a sexual sin alongside the likes of adultery, incest, sodomy, necrophilia, homosexuality, etc. Sexual sin is sexual sin, no matter what baptismal name one may choose to give it. Marriage is and remains the only institution that gives validity to sexual intercourse. You can’t milk a cow you haven’t fully purchased after all.
When addressing Job, Elihu asked him a very critical question: “Just because you refuse to live on God’s Terms, do you think He should start living on yours? Job 34:33a (MSG). Every manufacturer has a manual which contains the terms the consumer must abide by if he will get the best out of the product. God Almighty is no different. We must view everything concerning sex, including pre-marital sex, from His Own Vantage Point and live only on His Terms. The Lord grant us grace.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for giving us the Scriptural Standards regulating sexual intimacy. We repent of every sin of fornication and ask for the grace to keep the marital bed undefiled in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
