“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, Who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”James 1:5 (NKJV).

Manifesting the Wisdom of God ought to be one of the greatest goals of every serious minded Christian. As we have seen in previous devotionals, God Almighty Himself is the One “Who alone is Wise… (Jude 25b), hence, Genuine Wisdom comes from Him alone. This is one the reasons the Scripture talks about “the Wisdom that is from above… (James 3:17a), which means the only way to download this Wisdom is by asking Its Custodian i.e., God Who dwells above.

King Solomon was very young when he ascended the throne of Israel, succeeding his illustrious father King David. Talk about big shoes to fill! Aware of the overwhelming responsibility of sustaining the Glory and Stability of a nation that was still healing from the previous insurrections of Absalom and Sheba respectively, he acknowledged the daunting task that awaited him. Therefore, he was left with no option other than to show God he meant business by sacrificing one thousand burnt offerings in Gibeon. That same night, God gave him a blank cheque and Solomon’s response was unprecedented: “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” (1Kgs.3:9). From the subsequent verses, we can see that God was pleased with Solomon’s request and granted him both influence and wealth alongside the wisdom he asked for (see 1Kgs.3:10–14).

The Scripture makes it clear that we shall receive that which we ask of the Lord (see Matt.7:7a). In other words, the number one purchasing price of Wisdom is desire (see Prov. 23:23). This then begs the question: How strong is your desire for Wisdom? Fools do not realise the true value of Wisdom for they haven’t entered a tight spot yet where they are at the end of their rope: “Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of Wisdom, since he has no heart for it?” (Prov.17:16).

God doesn’t waste Heaven’s Greatest Resources on those who have neither interest nor passion for them. If you are lacking Wisdom in any area of life, then do yourself a favour and ask the Lord today.

Father in Heaven, thank You for the Wisdom from above which comes from You alone. Help us keep our Eyes on Your Wisdom in our times of trouble in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
