BIBLE READING: 2TIMOTHY 4:7; 1TIMOTHY 4:15-16; GALATIANS 2:7-9
“And say to Archippus,“ Take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it.” Colossians 4:17(NKJV).
The Lord God Almighty is a God of Purpose, Plans and Objectivity. Everyone He created is assigned a unique task of fulfilling his own part of the Dominion Mandate (see 1Cor.3:6). In other words, every believer is expected to focus mainly on his own part in the pursuit of his purpose, which is what ministry is actually all about.
The Scripture reveals something very remarkable about purpose: “There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless, the Lord’s Counsel–that will stand.” (Prov.19:21).
Man is by nature ambitious. He has set goals and plans he seeks to accomplish on a daily basis, often running from pillar to post in the process. However, it is only God’s Counsel that stands sure rather than man’s goals hence the adage “Man proposes but God disposes.” In other words, God is obligated to fulfill His Counsel and not your plans. Put in a different way, He will never sponsor any ministry that didn’t originate from Him.
Taking heed to the wrong ministry is like exerting all your effort while climbing to the top of a wall with a ladder only to discover that you were leaning against the wrong wall. Jonah the prophet was given a ministry to reach out to the people of Nineveh but fled from the Presence of the Lord to Tarshish, “so he paid the fare.” (Jon.1:3b). This is so key. Operating outside your ministry takes you outside God’s Presence and Provision. When you do the King’s Business, He ends up paying your bills so take heed to your own ministry which you received from Him.
Heavenly Father, we exalt you for deeming us worthy to receive a unique ministry in service to You and humanity. O Lord, please help us to constantly be found in the Centre of Your Will in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
