BIBLE READING: EPHESIANS 4:7-13; ROMANS 12:1-8; 1 CORINTHIANS 12; ECCLESIASTES 4:9-12
But, speaking the Truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him Who is the Head—Christ—, from Whom the Whole Body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the Body for the edifying of itself in love. Ephesians 4:15-16 (NKJV).
The members of our bodies are properly united so as to produce beauty and vigour. Each member is in the best place and is suitably united to all other members. All depend on the head with reference to the most important functions of life. So it is with the Church. Our Lord and Saviour Who is the Head of the Body desires that we as the members of His Church and ultimately the members of His Family all become one as He and His Father are One.
Our key text talks about the great diversity within the Body of Christ and graces that each believer receives according to the measure of faith that God has dealt to each one of us (see Rom. 12:3). When the members of the Body of Christ work together in harmony as we should, the Body builds Herself up in love and attracts others to the Gospel of Christ and more are added to the Family of God.
As a believer, no matter your race, colour, size, experience or background, you have a unique contribution and role in the advancement of the Body of Christ. Without the active participation and contribution of every believer, the Body of Christ will be deprived in many ways.
Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4 wrote about the gift of spiritual leaders which is to equip the Saints for the work of ministry— According to 1 Corinthians 12, some are equipped for evangelism while some others may be graced with helping, giving, etc. All however are part of the whole.
Your talents and spiritual gifts are not for self gratification but for the edification of the whole Body of Christ. Christ our Head is the One who supplies all we need for the proper working of His Body. He is the Vine while we are the branches. He is the Shepherd and we are the sheep.
Thank You Father for making me a part of Your Body. Help me to use my gifts and talents to serve You and other believers so that Your Church will not be deprived in any way. Help other believers to realise this Truth so that we all will contribute actively to the advancement of the Kingdom in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
