BIBLE READING: EZEKIEL 18:23; MATTHEW 9:35-38; 2CORINTHIANS 5:18-21
For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10 (NKJV).
From our key text, the Lord Jesus stated clearly that His Mission on this Earth was “to seek and save that which was lost.” Man lost something after Adam plunged all of humanity into sin. Man lost Dominion and also lost his Relationship with the Lord God Almighty. God on His Own Part lost His children and the Fellowship He had and desires to have with man. From the time Adam fell up until Jesus’ First Advent, God has always desired Relationship and Fellowship with man.
The Assignment of saving man and restoring him back to dominion is what Jesus came to do. It is the same Assignment that the Church has and that every child of God should engage in. Nothing is more important than that. Every other thing we do as God’s people is to create platforms for expressing our Divine Purpose and also increase our capacity in carrying out this Primary Assignment. The platforms of expression cannot take the place of the purpose for living. Your career and business could be your platforms but your purpose in life as a Christian should be “to seek and save that which was lost.” It is called the Ministry of Reconciliation (see 2Cor. 5:18-21).
The branch of a vine cannot claim to have a different purpose from that of the vine nor can it bear a different fruit from that which the vine bears (see John 15:1-16). A Christian who is not interested in the business of winning souls and saving the lost is completely out of order. It is either he/she is ignorant or irresponsible. The reason why God saved us is so that we can join Him in the Business of saving others (see Luke 2:49).
Lord, open our eyes to the Number One Reason for our existence. May we become partners with You in fulfilling the Great Commission i.e., in evangelism, soul winning and discipleship, to deliver men from the sentence of Eternal Loss of their souls in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen
