BIBLE READING:1THESSALONIANS 5:23; PHILIPPIANS 3
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the Upward Call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14 (NKJV).
What is Capacity? We think of capacity as the resources necessary to implement your strategy, pursue your mission and achieve your vision.
You can have the most inspiring vision in the world, a powerful mission and a great strategy, but if you don’t have the capacity for executing, you will be frustrated. So understanding capacity, and more importantly, how to build capacity, is one of the most critical activities someone can pursue.
The four (4) Capacities we must develop are as follows:
- Spiritual Capacity:
This is the aspect of capacity development that takes care of our salvation and our Relationship with God. Building spiritual capacity is foundational to a fulfilling life. People don’t achieve the life they want by accident but rather by carefully considering what they want and setting their daily actions to pursue it.
In Philippians 3:7-12, Paul talked about how he kept pressing for higher spiritual levels and authority. Those who want to keep winning keep pressing. Only by pressing higher do we get to know God deeper. Just one season of protracted prayer and fasting and spending quality time in the Word of God can alter the spiritual landscape of your life forever.
- Moral Capacity:
This is the aspect of our development that focuses mainly on the building up of values and virtues like self discipline, integrity, trustworthiness, being respectful, and just. Charisma may shoot one to the zenith of one’s career but it will only take character (the major essence of moral capacity) to keep one there. Even in the Marketplace, it is commonly known that you may be hired for what you know but fired for who you are (see Ps. 45:6-7).
- Professional and Vocational Capacity:
Developing this capacity determines our financial prosperity and the rate at which money will flow to us (see 3 John 2; Rom.12:2).
- Social Capacity:
The social side of capacity development is where the greatest blessings of your life are located because it has to do with relationships. The greatest message that Christianity brings is Love which is the Foundation of your social capacity.
The social aspect of capacity development affects greatly both the Spiritual and Professional aspects of our development. Put in a different way, your networth is determined by your network. (see Gal.5:6).
To develop social capacity requires that you improve social structures and social attitudes, values and behaviours. Developing our social capacity means improving the way we interact, collaborate and cooperate with other people. It also refers to the practice of developing and maintaining relationships to form social networks.
The Lord God Almighty help us constantly balance and develop these four (4) sides of our lives as Christians.
Lord, I pray that You grant me the Wisdom and Grace to develop these four (4) major capacities in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
