BIBLE READING: 2PETER 1:1-10; MATTHEW 5; MATTHEW 7:15-20
“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, goodness; to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control, perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the Knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble. 2Peter 1:5-10 (NKJV).
Virtues and Values of the Kingdom are the Core Nature of God. They are the DNA and Signature of Christianity. Anyone who has them is like Christ and someone who lacks them is like the devil (see Acts 11:26 and John 8:44).
Virtues and Values make up the most important discoveries and Treasures in the Kingdom. Having obtained Salvation by Faith in the Finished Works of Christ, a believer must diligently cultivate Kingdom Values which are the beauty of our Salvation. Cultivating and exhibiting Kingdom Values is one of the ways of becoming a Friend of God because it attracts God’s Presence and ensures an Intimate Walk with Him (see John 8:29). For instance, Enoch, Abraham and David enjoyed an Intimate Relationship with God because they exhibited Kingdom Values and not necessarily because of their exploits.
Virtues are behaviors that portray high moral standards and excellence. A virtuous person is morally sound and committed to doing the right thing. Values are at the core of individual, group or organizational identity. Values are relatively enduring conceptions or judgments about what we consider to be important. Virtues and Values form the guiding principles that determine our choices, actions, behaviours and attitudes towards people, situations and things.
In the Kingdom we have both the Gifts of the Spirit (see 1Cor. 12:4-11) and the Fruit of the Spirit (see Gal. 5:22-26). However, the Fruit of the Spirit are the Virtues and Values of the Kingdom and these are the heartbeat of God because they portray the very Nature and Essence of God which must be cultivated diligently. God is attracted by the inner qualities of a man because He is not moved by our outward appearances. (see 1Sam.16:7). People remember the quality of our lives and not the abundance of skill or material resources we possessed while on earth.
The quality of your life is determined by the sum total of Virtues and Values you portray because if you have every other material blessing and lose them, you have lost it all because Treasures of the Kingdom are hidden in Values and Virtues.
If you cultivate Values, you will attract favour from God and men, improve the quality of your relationships and achieve your goals. Values one is required to cultivate include the following:
• The Beatitudes (or “Be”Attitudes) given by Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount (see Matt. 5:3-12).
• Becoming a person who trembles at God’s Word: You must learn to accept God’s Rebuke from His Word and from your leaders like David did (see Isa. 66:2 and Ps. 51).
• Faith, Hope and Love: We must walk by Faith, never lose Hope and walk in Love which is the Surest Way to Victory (see 1Cor. 13:13).
• Goodness, Knowledge, Self-control, Perseverance, Godliness, Kindness etc. (see 2Pet. 1:5-7).
• Being morally just and hating evil (see Rom.12:9 and 14:17).
For whoever lacks these qualities is blind—shortsighted [closing his spiritual eyes to the truth], having become oblivious to the fact that he was cleansed from his old sins. 1Pet. 1:8 (AMP).
Father, I thank You for this Revelation of the importance of Kingdom Values. Please forgive me for consistently breaking Kingdom Values that have limited the Manifestation of Your Kingdom through me. I dedicate myself to cultivate Kingdom Values to enable me represent You effectively in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
