“But if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to behave yourself in the House of God, which is the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth” 1Timothy 3:15 (NKJV).

One of the rarest qualities in the world today is trust. With the relentless wave of deception overwhelming both individuals and institutions, genuine custodians of the Truth are in high demand, consequently, the Scripture says; “Buy the Truth, and do not sell It” (Prov.23:23a). The worst form of deception is self-deception, hence sincere people are willing to pay whatever price to obtain the Truth which is actually found in Christ Jesus Himself and His Church.

During the Last Supper, the Lord Jesus Himself told His disciples Who He really was (and still is); “Jesus said to him, “I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). The Lord said “I Am THE Way”, not A way. He also said “I Am THE Truth”, not A truth. Finally, He said “I Am THE Life”, not A life.

The definite article “The” (contrary to the indefinite article “a”) emphasised the exclusiveness of His Claims. Simply put, the Lord Jesus is not just one of the myriad of “truths” placed probably on the same pedestal as the “truths” of the likes of Muhammed, Buddha, Zoroaster or any other religious founder cum leader. Jesus Christ is the Only Way, Truth and Life, QED! (see Acts 4:12). Hallelujah! Now, if Jesus is the Truth, then it simply means that His Body which is the Church is ordained by God to be the Primary Custodian of the Truth. A man and his body are inseparable i.e., they are essentially one and the same, with Jesus and His Church no exception.

Our key Scriptural text in the third chapter of Paul the Apostle’s first epistle to Timothy reminds us that the Church is “the Pillar and Ground of the Truth” (vs 15). The Message Translation refers to the Church as the “Bastion of Truth”. By definition, a bastion is “a stronghold or fortress into which people can run for shelter”. This means that the Church is raised by the Lord God Almighty for the Purpose of fortifying His people in the Truth. In the midst of this perverse generation where false doctrines and damnable heresies abound, we need to trust God for a R.I.O.T. (Radical Invasion Of Truth) in all our local assemblies; “For we can do nothing against the Truth but for the Truth” (2Cor.13:8). May we be quick to guide all men out of their confusion whenever they ask like Pontius Pilate “What is Truth?” (John 18:38a).

Heavenly Father, we exalt You for all You have done in our lives. Help us, O Lord, to become Authentic Custodians of the Truth that the lost may be saved from doctrinal errors in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
