BIBLE READING: HEBREWS 12:5-11; JOB 5:17; PROVERBS 3:11-12
He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. Proverbs 29:1(NKJV).
Every real son is disciplined or corrected because his father wants him to turn out right. It is only an illegitimate son that is neglected by his father even when the son is following the wrong track.
A genuine son is able to receive rebuke and correction from his father with joy. The rebukes, chastening and corrections of a father are important trainings in a son’s life. Proverbs 23:13-14 says; Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall beat him with a rod, and deliver his soul from hell.
It is only a bastard that is untrained and goes about without correction. A child that lacks discipline and goes uncorrected will become spoilt. Proverbs19:18 (KJV) says; Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
As a son accepts rebuke from his father, he is able to become what God wants him to be. He also becomes a wise person and foolishness is driven away from him (see Prov.22:15). There is no way any person who calls himself a true son can develop in isolation without the firm guidance and discipline of his father, as stated by Proverbs 29:15; A rod and a reprimand impart wisdom: but a child left undisciplined disgraces its mother.
When a servant is rebuked or corrected, he interprets it as hate and never gets better but a son is never offended. He understands that action as the love of his father, hence the Bible says: He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly. (Proverbs 13:24).
Being disciplined is a blessing, especially when God disciplines His sons, it shows how much God cares about every detail of our lives, hence the Scripture tells us: Blessed is the man whom Thou chastenest, O Lord , and teachest him out of Thy Law.(Psalm 94:12 KJV).
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me despite my shortcomings. I ask that You lead me through the paths of righteousness, teach me Your Ways and redirect me when I stray. I submit myself under Your mighty Hand, Oh Lord, in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
