BIBLE READING: PHILIPPIANS 2:19-22; 2TIMOTHY 1:2; 2KINGS 13:14
For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. 1Cor. 4:15 (NKJV).
There is a saying that all truths are parallel. As it is in the natural, you will see a parallel reflection of it in the spiritual. If you understand the natural example or application of a truth it becomes easier to understand the spiritual dimension of that truth. (see Rom. 1:20)
There are different examples of this principle in life. One of those areas is in the principle of exclusivity in fatherhood. You can only have one biological father. So also you only have one spiritual father. Just like no human being can have two biological fathers, there can only be one father when it comes to human vessels that God uses to father us spiritually.
Paul alone was Timothy’s spiritual father and no one else. (see 1Cor.4:17) We all have only one Heavenly Father. In the same vein, there is also only one father of a mandate or commission. We may have several pastors, teachers, instructors, mentors, life coaches, trainers, etc. But when it comes to the vessel whom God has given the privilege to father us spiritually or bear the mandate that we should run with, it is one person. I pray we all discover who this person is.
Our dear Heavenly Father, it has pleased You to give us men to play different fatherly roles in our lives, starting with our biological father to our spiritual father. May You cause us to know by revelation who our spiritual father is and also the appropriate way to relate with him and honour him in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
