BIBLE READING: JOHN 5:16-47; GENESIS 1:26-30; JOHN 14:9-11
“Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” John 5:19 (NKJV).
Fatherhood is not a mere status that is attained by advancing in age or the ability to biologically reproduce. Fatherhood is a privileged position ordained by God who is the Father of Mankind as revealed by Jesus Christ, and a call to diligently take responsibility in the best interest of the members of the family (see John 14:9-11). God Almighty as a Father demonstrated this virtue by being the First Missionary who took responsibility to look for Man after Adam fell in the Garden of Eden (see Gen 3:8) and thereafter gave His Only Begotten Son to die a shameful Death on the Cross for the Redemption of Mankind. (see John 3:16-18).
A father blazes the trail and sets the standard for the sons to follow as evidenced by the Patriarch Abraham, whose obedience was recorded as Righteousness and about whom God testified: For I have known (chosen, acknowledged) him [as My Own], so that he may teach and command his children and [the sons of] his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is righteous and just, so that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised him.” Gen. 18:19 (AMP).
A son is the express image of his father. He is a reflection of his father. This means that when people see the son, they actually see the father. In other words, it takes a true son to reveal the father.” (see Gen. 1:26-27). Besides genetic traits a son received from the father that guarantees some degree of resemblance, he must also spend quality time with his father to become a genuine extension of his in conduct. After Jesus reconciled us back to God the Father, we are to fellowship and become intimate with the Father before we can become His Extensions on the Earth. The Lord Himself had this kind of Intimacy with His Father. He could see His Father’s Heart of Love and imitate it: “No man has seen God at any time, The only begotten Son, who is in the Bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.” John 1:18 (NKJV). Furthermore, the Disciples became the Extensions of Jesus Christ after spending three years of intensive training that led to the fabrication of the title “Christian” in Antioch because of the Christlike Characteristics they displayed (see Acts 11:26).
As true sons, we must function with an understanding that we are the Father’s Extension in order to protect the Family’s interest and ensure its goals are met. We must not only do the work of the Father but same must be done at the Right time – I must Work the Works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4 (KJV).
A true son works for the advancement of the Business of his Father because he is part of the business and not a hired servant who has no inheritance therein. When a son conducts himself in public, he acts with an understanding that the family name is at stake. A son works for the advancement of the Business of his Father by representing Him to ensure that the frontiers of the Father’s Business are enlarged to generate greater profit. As a son, are you truly an extension of your Father in Heaven and your spiritual father?
Father, I thank You for the Revelation of your Fatherhood and for making our Lord the Model Son for us to imitate as the Extensions of God and His Domain here on Earth. I obtain Grace to represent You properly in everything I do and to Finish the Work of Ministry You have assigned to me in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
