“My son, give me your heart, And let your heart observe my ways.” (Proverbs 23:26).

The Lord God Almighty is a Highly Systematic God Who places high premium on organization. Even the Bible is clear on this, hence Apostle Paul told the church in Corinth “Let all things be done decently and in order.” (1Cor.14:40) It takes maturity to promote and enforce order anywhere, hence the importance of understanding the Concept of Sonship.

A son

Scripture states this clearly:
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, And the Government will be upon His Shoulder…” (Isa.9:6a) In other words, children are born while sons are raised. Within the context of the Spiritual Family, Sonship is the highest level of Spiritual Maturity which every Christian must strive to attain. There are five stages of development in Christ:
(1.) Conversion: This refers to converts who have gone through the New Birth Process. Such believers are babies in the Lord. (see 1Pet.2:2).
(2.) Membership:
This refers to believers who have been integrated into the local church family after going through the Dominion City Academy, Encounter Retreat, Water Baptism etc. (see Psalm 92:13).
(3.) Discipleship: This refers to the disciples who are going through the process of becoming Christlike i e being conformed to His Image. (see Rom.8:29).
(4.) Ministry: This refers to the process of deployment whereby a trained believer becomes a productive minister who serves on behalf of the Kingdom. (see Heb.1:7).
(5.) Sonship: This refers to the zenith of Christian Maturity where true dominion begins. (see Matt.17:5).

There are two major categories of believers who are more of liabilities than assets to the Kingdom of God:
Members who have refused becoming disciples.
Ministers who have refused becoming sons.

The Lord God Almighty has laid up an inheritance reserved only for His sons. However, one can never become a son of God until he first of all becomes a son of man. (see Luke 19:20) The onus therefore lies upon us as genuine Christians to begin the journey to sonship for that is where the rubber meets the road in our Christian Faith.

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the Revelation of Sonship. O Lord, help us transit from being mere believers to becoming sons You can rely on in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
