BIBLE READING: PROVERBS 1:7; JOB 28:28; GENESIS 31:42-45; HEBREWS 5:7
The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, The Spirit of Counsel and Might, The Spirit of Knowledge and of the Fear of the Lord. His delight is in the Fear of the Lord, And He shall not judge by the Sight of His Eyes, nor decide by the Hearing of His Ears; But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the Rod of His Mouth, And with the Breath of His Lips He shall slay the wicked. Righteousness shall be the Belt of His Loins, And Faithfulness the Belt of His Waist. (Isaiah 11: 2-5).
We can see from our foundational text that of the Seven Spirits that came on Jesus, the only one that attracted His delight was neither Wisdom, Knowledge, Counsel nor Might but rather the Fear of the Lord.
The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord can also be called “the Spirit of Holiness.” It is the Anchor of the other Six Spirits of the Lord, without which you can corrupt the flow of the others. It was when this Holy Fear lifted from Lucifer that his inner spirit configuration was altered and he became the devil. Without the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord, a man becomes extremely dangerous.
The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord will guard you in the Holy Fear of God, and empower you to live right so that you can make Heaven and God can entrust you with His Spirit and with great Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Knowledge and Might.
According to Proverbs 1:7, the foundation of Wisdom, Knowledge, Counsel, Understanding, Might and the Spirit of the Lord, is not in skills and mighty works but in the Fear of the Lord (see.Proverbs 9:10; Psalm 111:10). In Job 28:28, Job, after a protracted search for wisdom and its worth in gold, concluded that the Fear of the Lord is Wisdom and to depart from evil is Understanding.
When we do not give attention to the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord, we can become an easy target for the enemy. Samson was a good example of someone who tremendously manifested the Spirit of Might, yet was destroyed by the enemy. He could not guard his consecration and anointing, because he neglected the Holy Fear of God (see Judges 16). On the other hand, Joseph overcame Potiphar’s wife because of his Holy Fear of God for he had the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord poured on him (see Genesis 39:5-12).
In Genesis 31:42-45, after the incident that took place on Mount Moriah, the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord fell on Isaac for the God of his father Abraham. He saw his father’s Deep commitment to God that made him willingly offer His Only Son to God on the altar. It eternally impacted Isaac and had an overwhelming effect on his personal walk with God. It was so strong that Jacob his son swore an oath by the Fear of Isaac his father when he made a covenant with Laban.
Hebrews 5:7 portrays to us how the Lord Jesus, though a Son, had a deep seated Reverence for God His Father. He always approached God with Reverence and Awe, even in the place of prayer. He is always heard not just because He is the Son of God but because of His Reverence. Walking in the Fear of the Lord grants believers access to the Uncommon Treasures of God, especially His awesome Presence and Glory.
Oh Lord, may the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord return to my spirit and to Your church. May the Spirit of the Fear of the Lord fall afresh on me, that I will always bow before You in reverence and awe like the elders and the angels around the Throne. Cause me Lord not to delight in Might, Wisdom, Knowledge, Counsel, or Understanding, but let my delight be in the Fear of the Lord. I ask all these in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
