BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 11:1-4
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19 (NKJV).
As we continue our discussion on the seven Spirits of God, we will be looking at the Spirit of Might. The Spirit of Might brings the Mighty Acts of Power, Strength, Miracles, Signs and Wonders. These mighty acts range from physical healings and miracles to strengthening your spirit man with courage and faith, to signs in the heavens above and wonders on the earth.
So many mighty acts were recorded in the Scriptures. In the Old Testament we find various instances from the Signs and Wonders that God showed in Egypt, the parting of the Red Sea, the Supernatural provision of manna in the wilderness, to Joshua suspending the Sun and the Moon for almost a whole day in the battle against the Amorites, and several others.
Samson was a classical example of a man who demonstrated mighty acts of power whenever the Spirit of Might came upon him. Also, Elijah by the Spirit of Might turned a backslidden nation back to God by calling down fire to consume an offering on the altar, afterwards he outran Ahab in his chariots by the Spirit of Might. The Spirit of Might not only enabled David defeat the enemies of Israel as well as kill Goliath of Gath, kill a lion and a bear; he also by that same Spirit of Might raised men who did the same (see. 2 Samuel 23:8-39).
Throughout His Earthly Ministry, Jesus did such mind boggling mighty works that even Herod was looking for an encounter with Him. By the mighty acts at the gate called Beautiful, the apostles rattled Jerusalem and attracted the attention of the religious leaders of their day and grew the infant Church at Jerusalem.
There are Four Greek words for power or might:
- Dunamis: Acts 1:8:
Dunamis Power is actually healing and wonder-working power. It is the root of the words Dynamo and Dynamite i.e. explosive power. An internally resident power.
- Ischus: James 5:16:
Ischus means ‘Energising Power’. Ischus will give you Dunamis because of the faith you already have. Dunamis Power is like a battery in your inner man. To charge dunamis power you need Ischus power which is like a current that charges the battery.
- Kratos Power: Acts 19:20: Kratos is a completely different dimension of God’s Power. Kratos takes what you do and multiplies it, making it prevail. It is like a nuclear explosion. It is God’s Kingdom and Dominion coming upon a region or a city.
- Exousia: Matthew 10:1:
Exousia is delegated authority. It is stepping out in faith because God said it. You do it because it is written in the Word. Remember, Jesus said “it is written” thrice when His Father tested Him using satan.
Mighty acts operate by the Principle of Faith. The Spirit of Might is not just an ordinary anointing but is backed up by authority. When you speak the word, it is backed with authority. To keep the Spirit of Might flowing in and through you, it demands a fasted life, discipline and the energising power that comes from prayer. (see Luke 4:1,14-18).
Your constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit and the Word energises the dunamis power resident in your inner man. The Lord grant us this unusual endowment for this untoward generation.
Lord Jesus, fill me afresh with the Spirit of Might in my inner man until I reach an overflow in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
