THE SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING
BIBLE READING: EXODUS 31:6-11; REVELATION 5:6; ZECHARIAH 4:10; REVELATION 4:1-5
Then the Lord spoke to Moses saying: See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood and to work in all manner of workmanship. Exodus 31:1-5 (NKJV).
We have studied the Spirit of the Lord and the Spirit of Wisdom, two of the Seven Spirits of God. These Seven Spirits of God are the Fiery Eyes of God that run to and fro throughout all the earth. Today, we will look into the Spirit of Understanding which usually works closely with the Spirit of Wisdom.
The Spirit of Understanding is the Spirit of know-how. A man is able to know how to do things when this Spirit is at work in him as you can see in Exodus 36:1; “And Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, shall do according to all that the Lord has commanded.”
When the Spirit of Understanding is at work in the life of a man, he is able to discern and to judge matters without bias. As a leader in any sphere of life, the Spirit of Understanding is a Tool that aids kingship. King Solomon asked the Lord for this Spirit in 1Kings 3:9; Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
If you already function with the Spirit of Wisdom, it would be wonderful to ask the Lord for the manifestation of the Spirit of Understanding so that you won’t just have ideas but also know how to implement them, to know the steps to take. It will automatically make situations a walk over for you. Proverbs 10:13a says; Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding.
Everyone needs the Spirit of Understanding functioning in their lives to know what to do per time. That way, one will not miss out on what God is doing and the direction in which He is moving. This understanding of the times was evident in the Tribe of Isachaar: 1Chronicles 12:31; of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command.
Father, I ask for the Spirit of Understanding to be made manifest in my life. Let every darkness flooding my mind and eyes be lifted in Jesus’ Name. Anoint my heart to be quick to understand I pray in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
