BIBLE READING: 1CORINTHIANS 12:8-10; JOHN 11:38-44; ACTS 13:8-11; ACTS 19:11-12; JOHN 2:1-11; MATTHEW 9:35
“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”(Mark 4:39)
One of the greatest things for any believer to have access to is the Power of God. The Omnipotence of the Lord is attested to throughout the Scriptures, hence David said “God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That Power belongs to God.” (Psalm 62:11) This is food for thought. If Jannes and Jambres, the magicians of Egypt were mesmerized by the Finger of God (see Exodus 8:16-19), what about His Hand?
In our previous study, we have seen that the Nine Gifts of the Spirit are compartmentalized into three clusters of three. Today, we will examine the Second Group of Gifts known as the Power Gifts or “the Gifts that do something”, namely the Gift of Faith, Working of Miracles and the Gifts of Healings.
(1.) Gift of Faith: This is a Supernatural Ability or Capacity to believe God for a miracle or any amazing occurrence that defies human logic. This Gift is not the same as the Fruit of the spirit called Faith or Faithfulness (see Galatians 5:22b). It is also not the Basic Faith which comes from hearing God’s Word. (see Romans 10:17). The Gift of Faith is actually God’s Own Faith Which is an Impartation. When the Lord Jesus said ” Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22), the literal Greek renders it as “Have the Faith of God”. This Gift neutralizes every trace of doubt within the heart and the head, with nothing being impossible in the eyes of its bearer. Examples of the Gift of Faith in operation throughout the Bible include Joshua experiencing the Sun standing still over Gibeon (see Joshua 10:12-14) and the Lord Jesus being fast asleep in the midst of the stormy waves. (see Mark 4:36-41).
(2.)Working of Miracles: This is the Supernatural Ability to work out or demonstrate an amazing occurrence or miracle. The major difference between this Gift and the Gift of Special Faith is that the former requires a working i.e. a yielded person initiating a miracle through various prophetic actions while the latter does not. Biblical examples include Jesus feeding five thousand men with only five loaves of bread and two fish. (see Matthew 14:14-21)
(3.) Gifts of Healings: This is the Supernatural Ability to heal various types of diseases and ailments without human aid of any form. This is the only Gift of the Spirit that is in plural form. (see 1Corinthians 12:30a) This means that there are different areas of sickness that require different types of healings. For example, someone may have a special grace for healing diverse cancerous growths while another is gifted in healing deaf people.
Father in Heaven, we glorify Your Holy Name. Thank You for demonstrating Your Power through us, O Lord. We receive access to Your Power Gifts in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
