BIBLE READING: ISAIAH 32:12-15; JOB 14:7-9
“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with Power from on High.” Luke 24:49(NKJV).
The Sacrifice of the Lord Jesus on the Cross paved way for the emergence of an exceeding great army of witnesses who were mandated to spread His Gospel to the ends of the Earth. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that, “The Lord gave the Word; great was the company of those who proclaimed it.” (Psalm 68:11). The Lord Jesus paid the Price in full not just for our Redemption but also for His Mandate to be published by us (see John 19:30). However, there is the place of tarrying or waiting for equipping.
Anytime soldiers are enlisted in the army, they cannot go onto the battlefield until they become appropriately armed. The Scripture makes this truth quite apparent: “Listen carefully: I am sending the Promise of My Father [the Holy Spirit] upon you; but you are to remain in the city [of Jerusalem] until you are clothed (fully equipped) with Power from on High.” Luke 24:49 (AMP).
To tarry means to hang around, to wait, to linger, to remain etc. There was a Divine Equipment that the early disciples needed in order to fulfill the Mandate of Christ, an Equipment that required them to wait on the Lord. No wonder the Scripture tells us that, “those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength….” (Isaiah 40:31a) The word “wait” is derived from the Hebrew word “qavah” which literally means “to bind together by twisting” and “to be expectant.” Every Move of the Spirit of God, the Chief Equipper of men, is triggered off by overwhelming spiritual hunger and brokenness. The primary proof of spiritual hunger is tarrying which is for the purpose of activating the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit for a revival. Let us learn to wait on Him “Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on High, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field and the fruitful field is counted as a forest.” (Isaiah 32:15)
Heavenly Father, we bless Your Holy Name. Please grant us the grace, O Lord, to tarry in Your Presence until we become endued with Power from on High. Receive all the Glory in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Amen.
Spirit, touch Your Church,
Stir the hearts of men,
Revive us, Lord, with Your Passion once again.
I wanna care for others,
Like Jesus cares for me.
Let Your Rain fall upon me.
