BIBLE READING: 2CORINTHIANS 5:20-21; COLOSSIANS 1:12-27
“I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. I do not ignore or nullify the [gracious gift of the] grace of God [His amazing, unmerited favor], for if righteousness comes through [observing] the Law, then Christ died needlessly. [His suffering and death would have had no purpose whatsoever.]” Galatians 2:20-21(AMP).
The disastrous effect of the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden cannot be overemphasized. Man lost everything, both spiritually and physically, and even Creation was also subjected to bondage. Man in his fallen state carried a death sentence, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23(NKJV). God established that the consequences of sin is death, and since we have all sinned, we all deserved to die. Death was the righteous or just outcome of our actions. Considering the plight of Man, God demonstrated His Love as the first Missionary by offering His only begotten Son to die in exchange for the life of the Man that sinned. (John 3:16-18). When you believe in the “Finished Works” of Jesus Christ and confess Him as your Lord and Saviour, a great exchange occurs in your life along with rights to live a supernatural life.
In this exchanged life, Christ took all your sins and guilt and willingly died a brutal death in your stead on the Cross, to place you in His position of righteousness, “for He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2Cor. 5:21(NKJV). The authours of the book, “The Great Exchange: My Sin for His Righteousness” said; “Once [we] are in Christ, sinners become the righteousness of God, because God credits (imputes) Christ’s perfect righteousness to them. In the eyes of God, these sinners have fulfilled the requirement of the law because the Sinless One fulfilled the law on their behalf by his perfect life and obedient death on the cross; they are in effect, clothed in Christ’s righteousness.” Thus, the great exchange that results from the death of the Perfect Sacrifice is a twofold substitution: the charging of the believer’s sin to Christ results in God’s forgiveness, and the crediting of Christ’s righteousness to the believer results in His justification.”
Justification is a legal standing with God based upon Christ’s death and resurrection and our faith in Him. Therefore, justification or the exchanged life is the legal and formal acquittal from guilt by God who is the Eternal Judge. The moment you believed in Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you became a new person with a new motivation, new interests, and a new set of principles inspired by God. (2Cor. 5:17). Moreover, you who was once alienated from God was instantaneously placed into the Family of God (Col 1:21). The Power of the exchanged life is that you now live the life of Christ irrespective of where you are or the circumstances you are currently being faced with. You have become a mobile carrier of Jesus, you need to renew your mind with the Word to know who you are in Christ and what you have in Christ. You are an Ambassador of Christ acting as a divine agent of light in a dark and evil world.
Father, I thank You for giving me a second chance and for the great Price You paid to redeem me from eternal damnation. Thank You for not only saving me but for the gift of the Exchanged Life that is at work in me. I yield myself to You so that my life will bring You glory all the days that I live in Jesus’ name, amen.
