SPIRITUAL NURTURE IN DISCIPLESHIP

BIBLE READING: 1PETER 2:2

“The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do and the God of Peace will be with you.”(Philippians 4:9)

Spiritual nurture is an integral part of the discipleship process. It is done by teaching someone the importance of prayer, studying the Word regularly and attending church and fellowship services always. (see 1Thessalonians 5:17; 2Timothy 2:15, Hebrews 10:25) Don’t just teach it but rather see to it that he does it. Pray with the person and let the person watch you pray and ask the person to pray while you listen. Give him Scriptures to read and follow up to ensure they are read by asking him or her to discuss the lessons learned from those passages. Bring the person to church. Don’t just tell the person to come to church but rather bring them to church. (Psalm 122:1)

Dr David Yonggi Cho said that a new convert needs to be brought to church for at least 4 times before he or she will adopt the habit of coming to church. Yonggi Cho pastors the biggest congregation in the world in Seoul, South Korea so he should know. Church attendance is a habit and habits are formed through repetition. Bring them to church. Doing that will help you a great deal in helping your convert to mature faster because there are ministries in the church to help anyone grow if they continue to attend. (Psalm 92:12-15)

Taking your disciple to church takes care of 50 percent of the discipleship work you need to do in him or her. So start today and watch how much progress you would make by the end of the year.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, make me a true disciple indeed that Your Glory may be seen in me everywhere I go. Fill my heart with passion for making disciples. Give me the grace to lay down my life for others as Jesus did for me. Help me to see that sacrifice is the only way. Make me fruitful in the work and let my life affect men for You. Show me how to make true disciples of Jesus. This I ask in Jesus Name. Amen.
