For the time being, no discipline brings joy, but seems sad and painful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness [right standing with God and a lifestyle and attitude that seeks conformity to God’s will and purpose]. Hebrews 12:11AMP

We have seen what it truly means to be a disciple; it is not something you stumble upon. Becoming a disciple is a daily walk because you keep paying prices and dying daily. Until we become like Christ, we have to keep attending the school of discipleship and like every other school there are laid down principles (Things you must do to suceed in such an endeavour).

It is very easy to claim by word of mouth that we are disciples however, when the various prices we have to pay are made known, we begin to stagger at making true commitments. Matthew 16:24(NKJV) says; Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

As a disciple of Christ Jesus, you would have to make conscious efforts to let go of certain things. If you truly follow Jesus Christ, then you must inculcate the discipline of prayer, the discipline of fasting, the disciplines of study of the word and meditation, the discipline of thanksgiving and every discipline imbibed by the foundational apostles.

When you look at the account of the disciples who waited at the upper room in the book of Acts, all Jesus gave was a word of promise however, it did not stop them from waiting until that promise was fufilled. As Acts 1:12-14(NKJV) recounts; Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey. And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where they were staying: Peter, James, John, and Andrew; Philip and Thomas; Bartholomew and Matthew; James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot; and Judas the son of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.

A disciple trains himself to obey the word of God whether it is convenient or not, whether it is easy or not because his eyes are constantly on the goal/mission. Apostle Paul said he disciplined his body because he knew his body will not align with God’s word. 1 Corinthians 9:27, But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Thank you Heavenly Father for being ever patient with me, I receive grace to be disciplined as I pursue Christlikeness. Strengthen me by Your spirit in my inner man, I pray, in Jesus Name.
