“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 2Cor. 5:18-20(NKJV).

The concept of Christ’s discipleship model was not a plan B test run but rather, Jesus strategically deployed obedience-based discipleship by laying the foundation and became our model of the Father’s Agenda which He committed to the faithful Apostles.

In our previous devotionals on discipleship, we had clarified the misconception in the meaning of a disciple, Christ’s discipleship model and the cost of being a true disciple of Jesus. The Agenda of God which was fulfilled through Jesus was to restore man to his original estate, and recover his dominion as king and priest to reign on the earth (Rev. 5:10).

The Agenda of God that was hidden, and handed over to Jesus with the anointing of the Holy Ghost without measure includes but is not limited to: “ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-20(NKJV). Jesus faithfully executed this mandate and thereafter, prayerfully selected faithful men to continue with the advancement of God’s Agenda – “Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles. Luke 6:12-13(NKJV).

The Agenda of God is the restoration of the Souls of men: that was why God became the first, and also made His only Son a missionary. Jesus passionately restored man and changed the early Apostles agenda from mere fishing to fishing for men – “Passing along the beach of Lake Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew net-fishing. Fishing was their regular work. Jesus said to them, “Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.” They didn’t ask questions. They dropped their nets and followed.” Mark 1:16-18(MSG). The same way the early disciples promptly embraced the Master’s Agenda, and allegedly turned the world upside down for good is also expected from us in this 21st century.

From our key text, Jesus reconciled us and gave us the ministry of reconciling men to God. Whose agenda are you advancing in your sphere of influence? There will be no excuse or justification for not advancing God’s Agenda of reconciling men, since God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit Who empowers us are still on missions today. Find out what God is doing around you and join Him in reaping the overripe Harvest today.

Father, I thank You for sending Your Son to restore me back to You. I have received the same assignment to reconcile men to You. I repent for not taking this assignment seriously. I receive grace to execute and bear fruits that shall remain to the glory of Your name, Amen.
