BIBLE READING: MATTHEW 12:22-37
“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV).
The devil does not have authority over you since you have given your life to Christ and you now belong to God’s kingdom. It happens quite often that through the spoken word, people grant access to the devil to enter and do his works of stealing, killing and destroying.
What you say is vital and you really need to be reminded of this truth at this time. In our reading passage today, our Lord Jesus said, “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:36-37).
How do you react when faced with imminent danger? Do you throw your hands over your head and shout that you are finished; or do you look at the danger in the face and command it to dissolve and fizzle away? When feeling symptoms of sickness, do you go telling everyone about your sickness and how serious it is becoming; or do you speak to your body and command it to reject everything God has not planted in it?
Two cannot work together unless they agree. When the devil brings his schemes your way, you better be sensitive enough to recognise those wiles of his and reject them. It is only when you accept them through what you say that they can enter and settle. James says, “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
This result will be achieved always if you remain sensitive and say the right things in critical moments.
• Thank God for today’s word and command the works of the devil in your life and all that concerns you to be rooted out.
With my words I can create good and evil. With my words I destroy the works of the devil that good may abound and flourish in Jesus name.
