“Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed) and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality—faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].” Hebrews 11:1(AMP)

The subject and relevance of faith within the context of Christianity can never be overemphasized. The Bible makes us clearly understand that it is impossible to please God or to be in His Good Books without faith (Hebrews 11:6). In other words, it takes faith to be found right in the Centre of His Will. There is nobody who attained lofty heights in the things of God, who never embarked on a journey of faith.

According to Hebrews 11:1, faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”(NKJV). From the aforementioned Scripture, it is obvious to us that faith does two key things:
Faith substantiates our expectations: In other words, expectation or hope is abstract while faith is concrete. Put in another way, hope is idealistic while faith is realistic.
Faith is the evidence or proof of the unseen: In other words, faith is the visible representation of an unseen truth. From this, we can see that faith is the title deed of God’s Provisions to His people. For example, let’s imagine you want to take a sizeable loan from the bank for a major project. When the bank authorities ask for a commensurate collateral, you don’t have to forklift one of your houses to show as proof. All you need to do is present your title deed or certificate of ownership. That is what faith really is.

During one of the sermons of our Lord Jesus in a house, some men tried to bring their paralyzed friend to Him, to have a personal encounter with Jesus. Seeing that it was basically impossible due to the fact that the house was full of people, they realized that desperate moments call for desperate measures. As a result, they broke the roof tiles of the house, and let down their friend in the midst of the Master. When this happened, the Scripture recorded five of the most profound words ever written:
“When Jesus saw their faith….”(Mark 2:5a) Glory to the Name of the Lord! Our Lord Jesus saw their faith because FAITH IS VISIBLE. It can be seen, for it is the title deed of the believer, it is tangible and the indisputable proof that we are “heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ”(Romans 8:17a).

Heavenly Father, we honour You and magnify Your Holy Name. What a great privilege You have given us to be called Your children. Thank You for giving us faith as our title deed, the proof of the validity of our inheritance in Christ. We give You all the Praise and Glory in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
