“Then Hezekiah questioned the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps. And Azariah the chief priest, from the house of Zadok, answered him and said, “Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat and have plenty left, for the LORD has blessed His people; and what is left is this great abundance.” Now Hezekiah commanded them to prepare rooms in the house of the LORD, and they prepared them. Then they faithfully brought in the offerings, the tithes, and the dedicated things; Cononiah the Levite had charge of them, and Shimei his brother was the next.” 2 Chronicles. 31: 9-12(NKJV).

We commenced building and renewing of our mindset using scriptures on Tithing and Prosperity yesterday. We have established that tithing is an integral part of kingdom stewardship. In our key scripture today, the chief priest testified of a truth that since the people were faithful in bringing in their tithes and offerings to the house of God, there has been so much prosperity among them as the Lord commanded in Malachi 3:10.

The book of Nehemiah describes not just how he rebuilt the physical wall of Jerusalem, but also how he reformed the financial walls of the people. He brought back the practice of first fruits, tithes, and offerings and it made abundant resources to be available for that massive project. It also made it possible for the priests and the levites to take their proper place in the land (Neh. 13:9-11).

Tithing is a way of building and rebuilding your personal and organisational financial walls. Tithes are not gifts to God, He claimed them to be His own as depicted in Leviticus 27:30(KJV), “All the tithes of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruits of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the Lord.” The tithe is hallowed unto God. And God charged His people to bring the hallowed thing from their houses to His storehouse.

In Mathew 23:23, Jesus put an unmistakable seal on tithing, He said it is a matter of the law which is to be fulfilled and not done away with, as some claim now in the New Testament. In Hebrews 7, verses 5 & 9, describe how Levi, the fourth generation son of Abraham received tithes of his brothers and also paid his tithes; verses 8,11,15,17 & 21, prove and reiterate, that Jesus Christ our King and eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, King of Salem whose geneology cannot be traced receives the tithes from our hands. Besides, Hebrews 11:4 elucidates that, our tithes, offerings, first fruits and other forms of giving have a voice in the courts of God just like Abel’s giving was a witness before God.

We are not saved by tithing, we are saved by the finished works of our Lord Jesus on the Cross of Calvary. After we are saved, we are commanded to obey the commandments of God, the teachings of Christ and His apostles which is a proof that we love God (John 14:15). Once you pledge allegiance to Jesus as your Saviour, and acknowledge Him as Lord of your life, you cannot struggle to obey His command because His divine nature has been installed in your spirit to obey God. Your tithe is not a freewill offering you give at will, it is a test and proof of your acclaimed love for Jesus. Recall that through prosperity shall the Kingdom be spread abroad, if you do not keep this command faithfully, you are placing a limit on the Lordship of Jesus over your life, especially over your finances and also, hindering the great commission (selah).

Lord, I acknowledge You as Lord of my life. I pledge to always obey and never again to withhold my tithes from You and Your House in Jesus Name, Amen!
